Description
Audits Reports of the varioius county offices for the preceding year (1843 Report is for the 1842 accounts). Particularly present are the audit, settlements, and adjustments of the public accounts of the Treasurer, Commissioners, Poor House and House of Employment, and Sheriff. Audits become more detailed after 1862 and especially after 1878 for the Poor House. Special audited accounts appear from time to time (Society for the Promotion of Agriculture and Domestic Manufacturies in and for Cumberland County, Teachers Institute, etc.). Early audit reports also act as minutes with date and place of meeting. Some audits include information back to 1781. Note 1: County Auditors records transferred to Controller's Office when Controller's Office established. Note 2: Several audits (Papers) are in folders with the volumes: Two years (1894 audit for 1893 and 1895 audit for 1894) are with the 1884-1897 volume as no case filing was found in either the Clerk of Courts or Prothonotary's docket indices and 1835 Common School Audit is in the 1794-1842 volume box.
