Appointments and Resignations

Description

Consists of petitions, appointments, and resignations for various county and municipal elected and non-elected positions. Petition information varies but usually includes the position to be filled, name of a person being recommended for the position, names of the petitioners and their municipality, date of the petition or filing, and the court's decision with name of appointee and date. An explanation for the appointment is often present and can include contested election, municipal divisions, and reasons for resignation such as refusal to serve, neglect of duty, moving out of the area, enlisting as a soldier, etc. Other documents present: petitions in opposition to an appointment, bonds, oaths, and wage recommendations. Note 1. Not all office identifications are specific. Example: "Constable" could also mean "Constable Deputy".

Arrangement: Artificial arrangement. Alphabetical by position and therein chronological by year as found.
