GRAND JURY REPORTS Series 1

Description

Reports to the Court of Quarter Sessions by the Grand Jury regarding 1. cases for possible indictment and 2. inspections of county public buildings (prison, courthouse, and poorhouse). Information on indictments identifies number of cases found as "True Bills" and "Not True Bills". In some Reports a list of the cases is included. Public building information incluldes findings and recommendations. Not all Reports include a public building assessment. Some Reports also include information about county bridges and charges to the Grand Jury to investiage specific matters such as Vagrants, Liquor, etc. Note 1: Prison also called "goal", "penitentiary", "jail", etc. Poorhouse also called "Almshouse", "County Home", "House of Employment", etc. Note 2. Some Grand Jury Reports are scattered in other series such as those listed in "Related Records" below.
