STATE TAX STATEMENTS

Description

Copies of annual statements submitted by the county commissioners to the State.

Three types of statements are present: Reports (filed with the Department of Internal Affairs), Returns (filed with the State Treasurer and the State Board of Revenue Commissioners), and Tax Returns (filed with Department of Internal Affairs).

For Reports: For each municipality, informational columns are provided for the name of the municipality; number of taxables; acres of cleared land; acres of timber land; value of all real estate; value of real estate exempt from taxation; value of real estate taxable; number and value of horses, mares, geldings, and mules over the age of four years; number and value of neat cattle over the age of four; value of salaries and emoluments of office, offices, posts of profit, professions, trades and occupations; aggregate value of all property taxable for county purposes (with mill rate per dollar); aggregate amount of county tax assessed (at the mill rate per dollar); amount of money at interest including mortgages, judgments, bonds, notes, stocks, etc.; value of stages, omnibuses, hacks, cabs, etc.; aggregate value of property taxable for State purposes at mill rate per dollar, including money at interest, stages, omnibuses, hacks, cabs, etc.; aggregate amount of State tax assessed; and debt of county.

For Returns: These statements regard the total amount or valuation of personal property assessed as returned by the local assessors. Information includes date of filing, name of municipality, name and address of the local tax assessors, amount of personal property tax levied, and totals.

For Tax Returns: These statements tabulate the amount of taxes collected by each municipally and the county total. Informational columns are provided for the name of each municipality and for the amount of taxes collected for the support of the poor; the construction and repairs of streets, roads, and bridges; for schools and school purposes, not including any appropriation received from the State; for other taxes collected; for personal property; for occupations; for licenses of all kinds, including wholesale and retail liquor licenses; for real estate of railroad corporations; and for real estate of corporations other than railroads, including limited partnerships.

Arrangement: Chronological by year and therein alphabetical by title of statement.
