Papers. Artificial series comprised primarily of claims by out-of-state owners to recover runaway slaves. Information varies, but usually includes name of slave and name of slave owner with their residence; claim, proof of slave's identity, history, and current incident (often supported by witness depositions); and signatures of slave owner and various officials.
Note 1: One manumission and one Freeman's pass are among these papers.
