TAX COLLECTOR ACCOUNTS - Delinquent Taxes

Description

Papers (Unbound volumes). Two volumes of financial accounting by year to determine the deliquent tax amount of tax collectors due to the Treasurer. Both are similarly titled "An Acc(ount) of the Balances Due …by Collectors of Cumberland County." Information shows the name of tax collector, municipality, transactions, and balance amount due. In addition to State and County taxes, various Revolutionary War taxes are also recorded (5 & 8 Month Tax, Effective Supplies Tax, Additional Supplies Tax, Class Tax, etc.). Entries may include which Treasurer received the payments. Note 1: Information from the unbound volume 1 appears to be the basis for constructing unbound volume 2. Note 2: Front pages of the first volume list deliquent taxes by a tax type (Class Tax, Effective and Additional Supplies Tax before sections by year on State and County Taxes due. Note 3: A list of writs issued against tax collectors compiled at the rear of this unbound volume with status of appearance in the 2nd volume. Note 4: A separate writ list is also present arranged by court year, term, and case number with Tax Collector 's name and municipality, and summons served notation with Sheriff's costs. Note 5: Also included is a workpaper titled "Statement of Outstanding Taxes" and lists tax collectors with unpaid amounts for 1843 and 1844.
